I was born into a family with two very different cultural and artistic traditions - that of my father's native Poland, and the more cosmopolitan influences of Istanbul where my mother was born. After graduating from Edinburgh College of Art with a D.A. in Drawing and Painting, I came to Dumfries to teach art. I painted in oils, still lifes, arranging the objects with care, and delighting in the patterns of shapes and colours. Landscapes were painted rapidly, trying to capture the changing moods of the light. Over the past two years, my work has veered off in an exciting new direction. Inspired by fragments of the past in Greece and Spain, I translate my reaction into a series of large semi abstracts in mixed media, the creation of which I find both compelling and absorbing.
